Will mahonia Charity grow in shade?
Mahonias do best in partial or full shade, although I've often seen them growing in full sun. They will grow in most soil types, but these woodlanders will appreciate a mulch in early spring.

Mahonia can be pruned at any time of the year without damaging the plant. The best time however is soon after they finished flowering, generally March to April time. This will give them the best chance of producing flowers later in the year.

What is the difference between Mahonia Charity and winter sun?
In terms of varieties, Hybrid Mahonia x Media Charity is perhaps the best known of Mahonias and will grow to quite a large size – circa 2 metres over time. Mahonia x Media Winter Sun usually flowers around November producing long racemes at the top of each branch.
What goes well with Mahonia?
Mahonia look good under planted with snow drops and Hellebores to provide a mixed winter border. Suitable companion shrubs would be Berberis if making a thorny hedge, or Rhododendron, Azalea and Viburnum if planting a mixed shrub border.
