Originaires de Kabylie, région montagneuse du nord de l'Algérie, les Kabyles sont des Algériens constituant un peuple et un groupe ethnique à part entière. Ils forment depuis le 19e siècle le plus important groupe berbérophone en Algérie.

- Due to French colonization, many Kabyle emigrated to other areas inside and outside Algeria. Over time, immigrant workers also began to go to France. In the 1920s, Algerian immigrant workers in France organized the first party promoting Algerians independence.
