Lieu de culte important, Montmartre est choisi pour accueillir la basilique du Sacré-Cœur après les évènements de la Commune (1871). Sa construction débute en 1875 et dure plus d'un demi-siècle. Son achèvement officiel date de 1923. Aujourd'hui, la basilique est l'un des lieux les plus visités de la capitale.
Comment monter à Montmartre ?
Le funiculaire de Montmartre relie le bas de la Butte au Sacré Cœur de Montmartre. Le trajet, qui dure 1 minute 30 secondes, permet de gravir rapidement et en toute sécurité les fameux escaliers de la Butte. Ce funiculaire, ouvert en 1900, est géré par la RATP.
