D'origine latine, le nom de Sarlat signifie la colline allongée. La ville de Sarlat-la-Canéda s'est en effet implantée au milieu des collines qui bordent le vallon de la Cuze, au sud-est du département de la Dordogne.
Pourquoi le Périgord noir ?
Le Périgord Noir, ou le Sarladais, est une région naturelle de France, c'est-à-dire qu'elle correspond à un territoire possédant des caractères physiques homogènes. Il tient son nom des nombreuses forêts de chênes Verts très sombres qui donnent cet aspect très sombre à cette partie de la Dordogne.
