Le nom a été annoncé la première fois le 9 Juillet 2013 par les membres sur leur compte Twitter, soit quelques semaines après les débuts officiels de BTS. ARMY est l'acronyme de “Adorable Representative MC of Youth” ou Adorable porte-parole/représentant de la jeunesse.
