Tout remonte aux années 70, quand une cinquantaine de perruches s'échappent d'un chargement à l'aéroport d'Orly (Val-de-Marne). L'espèce a fait son nid jusqu'à Paris et toute l'Ile-de-France. Leur multiplication a été assez rapide. La LPO (Ligue de la protection des oiseaux) en compte aujourd'hui 10 000 dans la région.
